About
SurjoKarmaa

Surjokarmaa is a collaborative research effort, dedicated to the universal use of solar energy as low voltage DC electricity. Surjokarmaa aims to create a technological base for universal application of low voltage, standalone, offgrid, hazard-free, user-managed, inexpensive solar electricity for ordinary users all over India. The idea of this effort was mooted about a decade ago, and the initial purchase of two solar panels, a solar lantern and a solar cooker happened around that time. Since then, a steady stream of fully functioning prototype devices, running on low voltage DC electricity powered by the sun, has been designed and fabricated at a home-laboratory. A large part of the lighting needs of this house, where this lab is located, is supplied by solar electricity from standalone, offgrid rooftop panels. We have been continually engaged in dissemination of awareness about solar energy through articles published in newspapers and journals and through lecture-demonstrations on our fabricated devices at schools and colleges. We are also currently engaged in research projects involving use of solar electricity for mosquito control and snake avoidance in rural and suburban areas of India. It is a continuing effort which we ask you to join.
